Who Benefits?

In 1991, the Gulf War ended. (the sanctions began, but that is another story). In 1996, after the Bosnia-Herzegovina war, the NATO Generals and the career officers (Second Lieutenant and above) all went back to their desk jobs, and back to their homes and their loved ones. Their days all started the same, breakfast with the spouse, maybe some other family members, then off to the desk at one of the bases. At their desk job, they shuffled papers and oversaw the base and the daily tasks facing those other soldiers with nothing to do but be a the base at their appointed jobs. No raise in rank, a waste of their fighting talents, all waiting for the next outbreak of agression so they can go back into the fighting mode they were trained to do. THEY NEED A WAR. The adrenalin is running, they pack up and leave the home for the foreign assignment, some move to other bases here in the U.S. and around the world. The Battle begins.

On the other end of this troop movement are the manufaturers of all the supplies that are needed for deployment and to carry out the fight. Stocks are emptied, and need to be re-supplied. More arms must be manufacturered over the volume we sell to other countries: In 2008, over 1/2 of all the weapons purchased by other countries in the whole world comes from the Peace-Loving United States. Jasmin Melvin writes “WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The United States accounted for more than two-thirds of foreign weapons sales in 2008, a year in which global sales were at a three-year low, The New York Times reported the United States was involved in 68.4 percent of the global sales of arms.U.S. weapons sales jumped nearly 50 percent in 2008 despite the global economic recession to $37.8 billion from $25.4 billion the year before.” We are a war-mongering nation, if not at war, we supply others to kill each other.

Today, please tell your member of Congress and U.S. Senator to End the War in Afghanistan, sign this petition SEND THIS LINK TO A FRIEND. End the War. End our Arms Sales to other countries. Bring our troops home. End the Misery in Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan.

  1. Steve Webb Says:

It’s time to stop the US military actions in Iraq and Afghanistan. If we leave now or 5 years from now, the results will be the same. It’s time to leave.
